Sodas & Skateboarding with the Crockett Family
This was such a fun session! Having things to do during your session is such a great way to keep kids engaged and entertained. When I could tell they were tiring of one activity, we would move on to the next! "Who wants to show me how they can skateboard?!" or "Let's me see you ride down this hill!". The kids were happy (until Margo hurt her knee), and that meant Mom was happy. Not to mention, Dad's love these types of sessions. Laid back, not stuffy and pose-y, and they get to play with their kids.
I love these types of sessions too, because it captures what this family's evening would have looked like at the park had I not been there. Sure, maybe their clothes wouldn't have coordinated so nicely, and maybe little sister's hair wouldn't have been quite so in place, and Mom probably would have been wearing a top-knot and no makeup, but the expressions are real. The connections between them are real. And that's what I want to capture for my families. The way the daughter looks up at her dad while he's pushing her up the hill on her bike. Or the way the toddler's chubby legs looked in her high-tops. Or the determination on older brother's face as he's practicing a new skill. It's all part of your story. Your family's story. And these are the images that will make you feel something. Now when you look at them. Or tomorrow. Or in 30 years when toys and bikes and family evenings at the park are no longer a part of your daily experience. When you're in the trenches of motherhood, the day to day monotony doesn't seem so magical. But when you have these moments to look back on, your heart reminds you just how extraordinary it really was.
Thank you for allowing me to spend the evening with your family, Crockett's. It was such a pleasure.
